Cuba 3 - art
While travelling I always head to the nearest market or local place to see what Art pieces I can find. I love to see how different we are in our interpretations.. Cuba was no different and they produce beautiful and unusual and some amazing pictures - from nudes, abstracts, oils, water colours and funny squiggles but there were also some very 'dark' work which did not appeal to me at all...The paintings of classic cars and Charlie Chaplin being one of their favourite subjects. So much to choose from that I had to visit the place at least 3 times during out stay to take it all in. Of course I had my favourites and would have been happy to have bought about 20 if I had a bigger house.

Cuba 2 - Old Harley Davidson
When we travel we like to see and be with the locals of what ever place we visit and I love to try anything new that I have not tried before. I of course love people and being on the street. While visiting the Jardin Botanico Nacional Gardens we saw this fellow polishing his bike. Wow it looked so good and I just had to have a ride. He told me that it had belonged to his father and it was 75 years old. What a beauty! He was happy to take me for a spin at a fee but I thought it would be worth it - needless to say we just went around in a circle twice which was disappointing.... but still a great bike.
He certainly dressed the part. |
Cuba - 1 - Old cars.
One of the first things one thinks of when thinking of Cuba is a vision of classic cars. We were no exception and on the way from the airport we were not disappointed. We were looking from side to side as they seemed to be everywhere. We of course could not take it all in but after 2 weeks we were almost blase in our approach to seeing them. Everyone wanted a ride in one or the other of these colourful and various models. It was certainly a good trade to be in as they were not cheap but everyone needs to take a ride in one. I of course am a good tourist and had to have a trip around the town and we loved every minute of our ride. Many of the vehicles flashed past us and we wondered how they traveled so fast but later found out that most of the engines under the hood were new 'zooped' up engines. Still there was their fair share of ' golden oldies' chugging around too.
